Wedding season is just around the corner! If you are getting ready for your big day and haven’t booked an appointment for your wedding day hair, it is not too late. Juanita Gaeta, at Serenity Hair Design in Lafayette, Indiana, has several years of experience making brides look gorgeous.
Juanita offers professional bridal hair services at Serenity Hair Design or can be available to come to you at your desired location. For on-site services, additional fees may apply – call (765) 447-4214 for more information.
Bridal wedding hair services typically include a pre-trial appointment to play with different looks and/or finalize wedding day hair plans. The pre-trial is typically done about one to two weeks prior to the wedding day. The pre-trial wedding hairstyle also helps to put the bride at ease, so that everything will fall into place perfectly on the wedding day.
Pre-trial wedding hairstyles typically cost about 50.00 and are usually only done on the bride, although can be done for bridesmaids also. Wedding day hairstyles typically run about 75.00 for the bride and 50.00 for bridal party hairstyles. Call to ask about custom wedding packages, on-site breakfast or for more information.
We have some very exciting news! Serenity Hair Design has officially opened a new location on the South side of Lafayette – off of Veterans Memorial Parkway, near Arni’s. This new space became open to the public on October 1st, 2013. However, we will be hosting our grand opening party at a later date (TBA).
After moving and merging with with Malena’s Hair Design (see previous post for details), owner, Juanita Gaeta decided to open a new location on the south side of Lafayette with friend and former co-worker, Angie McGhee.
SERENITY HAIR DESIGN TO MOVE AND MERGE WITH MALENA’S HAIR DESIGN
Serenity Hair Design, currently located on the corner of State Road 26 and Creasy Lane, right next to D&R Market. The salon will move and begin accepting clients at the new location starting July 1st, 2013.
Malena’s Hair Design is located on 3461 Union Street, Lafayette, IN 47904. Serenity’s current phone number will remain active; so existing clients can continue to call the same number for questions and/or appointments. All existing appointments will remain at the same time, and with the same stylist; they will just take place at the new location.
“I am looking forward to the transition and to be working with my sister, Malena” said Owner Juanita Gaeta. “It’s sad to leave the space I started at, but I am so excited to begin this new chapter. At Malena’s we will be able to offer a more private setting and an extended list of services, including facials and manicures.”
Continuous updates will be posted on Serenity’s Facebook page.

I don’t know about you, but I am SO ready for spring! I have seen a huge trend for short hair coming in, and if you are thinking about losing your locks, now is the time. There are currently tons of super cute short hairstyles trending. If you have never had a short haircut, here are a few pieces of advice to keep in mind…
1.) Hair cut chin length or shorter can’t be pulled back into a pony-tail; so, if hair on your neck will bother you in the summer, go really short or keep it long enough to pull back.
2.) Anytime you make a drastic change with your haircut, you will need to change how you style it. You will also probably need new products to make your new short hairstyle look right, so be sure to ask your stylist about the right at-home regimen.
Here is some great short hairstyle inspiration for a Spring/Summer 2013 short haircut… Enjoy! 🙂
Anne Hathaway plays up this short haircut by varying her hairstyle.
Victoria Beckham keeps this short hairstyle edgy and feminine. Longer hair around the face can add playful femininity.
Ashlee Simpson’s short hair cut is just long enough to tuck behind the ears to play up the hairstyle.
Miley Cyrus’ short haircut has definitely gotten a lot of “buzz”. Not everyone can pull this short hairstyle off, but if you are looking for something edgy and bold, I say go for it!
I just love this sassy, side-swept, super short hairstyle.
A side-swept, asymmetrical, short haircut is fun, edgy, pretty and looks great on most face shapes.
This forward-sweeping, wispy bang is fun, but make sure it will work with your face and hair before you have it cut. This particular short haircut can look mushroom-y on the wrong person.
Not ready for a short-short haircut? A short bob is always in style. This cut can be styled soft and voluminous (as seen on Cameron Diaz) or playful and piecey (like on Kristen Cavallari).
Behindthechair.com (BTC) is an online-based company that provides education, retail and industry-related information to salon professionals. With over 600,000 members world-wide, behindthechair.com has built a strong reputation withing the salon industry. About a month and a half ago, BTC launched its own virtual community on behindthechair.com. This community is open only to salon professionals (stylists, make-up artists, estheticians, owners, etc.). It is a place where stylists can create a profile, upload and share their professional work and interact with each other.
Other websites have attempted to create virtual communities in which stylists can create and share their work, but have not been successful in doing so. The initial concept behind these sites is genius, but they all seem to fail when it comes to gaining awareness and engaging social media, making it impossible to achieve success. This is where I think that BTC stands out and why it will become…
We recently did a photo-shoot that featured 3 different bridal/formal hairstyles. These gorgeous models were absolutely wonderful to work with and we were thrilled with how each of these wedding updos turned out.
First pictured is model MaKayla. MaKayla’s hair is parted on the side with a fishtail braid on side of the part. The back is curled, lightly teased to add volume and a tousled effect and pinned. This style has an elegance to it that demands attention, but isn’t overdone. This style is versatile and would work well for a prom, wedding or other formal event.
This next updo, as seen on Tawnah (our model below), incorporates varied textures. The top is smooth, polished and side-swept. The hair was curled and pinned, cascading to the side for an asymmetrical balance. This updo was perfect for a birdcage veil. We actually made our own for this shoot by simply gathering and pinning a section fabric at the base. We concealed pins and tied it all together by securing a peacock feather hair piece at the base. Side-swept styles are great for weddings because they typically photograph well. You will likely not have pictures in which the hair style is completely hidden from the front, as you may with some updos that are centered in the back of the head.
Last but certainly not least, we have Christine, who is modeling a classic, refined and simple bridal hairstyle. This updo is smooth and polished all over. We teased lightly at the base to create some volume then smoothed everything down into a low, side pony-tail. Next, we teased the hair in the pony-tail to create fullness, smoothed over the top and tucked it into place with bobby pins. We finished this look by placing a few simple orchids at the base. This is a great style for someone seeking timeless elegance. This style works best on people with long, thick hair. If your hair is not long and or thick though, your stylist can probably use extensions or hair fillers to create this style.
“This season, designers wanted to achieve different textures and really push the artistic boundaries of hair. I really relied on my go-to Redken products to create the specific looks they wanted. There were a lot of references to the mid-90s, when minimalism came into fashion, and also the 60s. It was about attitude and technique—nothing was left to chance.”
